ALVS Identities: Adult Learner, Student Parent

Hey y’all! I’m Kyndall (she/her), a Sociology major with a concentration in Criminology at Colorado State University. I’m a first-generation student, a parent of three, and Kansas-born, just a girl who learned to ride a horse before she learned to ride a bike…which explains JUST a few things about me. Before transferring to CSU, I experienced numerous hardships before betting on myself and pursuing Higher Education. I completed my first two years of college online while working as a Legal Administrative Specialist and raising my three children. Online education gave me flexibility, but I wanted more than a computer screen and a to-do list. I wanted to challenge myself academically, find my people, and become part of a community where I could grow, contribute, and occasionally prove that caffeine and determination are a perfectly acceptable survival strategy. That decision led me to Colorado State University, where I recently completed my first full year as a CSU student. I chose CSU because of its strong sense of the belief that Rams take care of Rams. From the moment I arrived, I found people who genuinely wanted to see me succeed. Beyond my coursework, I’ve had opportunities to explore ideas focused on supporting survivors and improving the ways professionals and systems respond to the people they serve. Those experiences have only strengthened my passion for advocacy and meaningful change. Along the way, Adult Learner and Veteran Services quickly became one of my favorite places on campus; a welcoming corner at CSU filled with strong coffee, amazing support, and some truly wonderful humans.

I’ve always believed it takes a village to raise children, and I’m equally convinced that village doesn’t disappear once we become adults. We all need people who cheer us on, reminding us of our strengths and helping us find stability when things feel uncertain. That’s one of the reasons I’m so excited to serve as a Peer Advisor. Whether you’re navigating your first semester, balancing responsibilities outside the classroom, or simply trying to figure out where you fit, I hope to be part of the village that helps you thrive.

With my future, I hope to build programs and services that support survivors while also helping educate and empower the professionals, advocates, and decision-makers who serve them. Creating positive change through education, advocacy, and connection is at the heart of both my academic journey and my future goals. When I’m not studying, you’ll usually find me fishing, paddleboarding, spending time with my kids, or enjoying the Colorado agriculture. If there’s sunshine, fresh air, and a snack involved, I’m probably happy. : )

No matter the student or circumstance, you don’t have to do this alone. Whether you’re returning to school, balancing family responsibilities, working while attending classes, or simply trying to figure out your next step, there is a place for you here. Stop by, introduce yourself, grab a cup of coffee, and let us know how we can support you. Some of the best parts of my CSU experience started with a simple “Hello”. I’d love for ALVS to be that place for you, too!! A place where you feel seen, supported, and reminded that you belong. Go Rams!!
